I realized then: This was the danger, the swan song of love.

Swan Song

Poem
And then, you turn the car
onto the rural road to my place,
emotions hallowed my heart–
my eyes heavy with tears,
from the glare of a streetlight
I saw your stone face.
Only a few minutes left.
before I stepped out of the car,
understanding, love, a lifelong
journey–what happened?
Geography itself has turned;
My feet trembled on alien ground.
From here on;
I must face the world without you.
I must see the world through my own eyes,
At a time, I needed love most,
a cold goodbye instead.
I paused to gather my thoughts,
Is this the same person
Who once stood beside me in love?
I realized then:
This was the danger,
the swan song of love.
